cassity
More of a "Before and During"! The images are pretty meaningless without any explanation: http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/aug/13/tianjin-explosions-visible-from-space-china Ok, if 'during' makes you happy. The images were an extension of the link you supplied.

Not what you described and pointless without the information supplied in the whole article.

mickey finn
If it was a low yield nuclear device then those buildings wouldn't be standing. Most of that looks like uncontrolled fires have gone through especially the car lot they will have just burnt from one to the other and nothing could be done to stop it. It looks like there has been a huge area that has burnt, or is still burning I should think probably because there was just so much combustible stuff there. They said a lot of firefighters were killed in the explosions, so I can only presume they were already there fighting a fire which is presumably what triggered the explosions. 50 dead now they reckon I can only imagine that is going to rise a lot more It makes you think though, that explosion was just a few tons, imagine what a 1 megaton device would be like hitting a modern big thriving city. ---------- Post added 13-08-2015 at 23:06 ---------- Here's some videos of the explosions. Some of the videos remind me of scenes from the movie Cloverfield.

The US did some tests on above ground structures when they were still doing atmospheric testing and it was quite illumination just how far off you could set something on fire... there are loads of videos on Youtube to scare yourself silly with... I seem to recall the tests at Bikini Atoll removed the atoll entirely and it was worked out that you could set paper on fire up to 50 miles away just from the flash - way beyond the blast damage. A single megaton class device would essentially obliterate any city you cared to drop it on I expect.

Scary stuff Obelix, I wonder how this country would cope with just London being hit with such a device, how would the services cope with so many injured, what the psychological effects would be for the whole country, could that one event lead to a country wide descent into complete chaos and lawlessness. Nagel
How would your nearest city be affected by a bomb the size of that dropped on Hiroshima? If you pick a groundburst you can model the fallout effects as well and see the secondary damage...
johncocker
look at 4:22 to 4:27 - look at the shape/outline of the glare (to the right side) at about 4:20 it's shapeless. but watch as it expands .....is it the year of the demon cat in china? If you pick a groundburst you can model the fallout effects as well and see the secondary damage... Airbursting a 100 megaton "Tsar Bomba" over Sheffield would produce 3rd-degree burns as far away as Harrogate. And an estimated 2,978,560 deaths. In order to avoid accusations of sensationalism (nuclear disarmament being a political hot potato at the time), "Threads" only had 210 megatons in total being dropped on the entire country.
