Woman fined nearly £300 for stealing three bottles of baby milk

This raises some quite interesting questions, apart from the obvious; the Court had to impose the fines because the previous Justice Secretary, Christopher Grayling, said that 'Courts must be self financing'.

Courts should be able to vary fines and offer leeway, where in cases like this one, the person charged stole the baby milk as they were too poor to afford it.

It raises the question, up to what value of goods should we be allowed to steal if we can't afford them before it becomes an offence.

Should it be an offence for me to steal some baby milk because I could afford this, but not an offence for me to steal a Ferrarri because I can't afford this...

Judge did right.

Why bring a child into the world when you clearly can't afford them?

You aren't really that stupid, so stop pretending to be, it's embarrassing.

Judge did wrong. Of course theft is an offence and should remain so, but if this man was stealing milk to feed his baby the judge could and should have been far more lenient.

I know a lot of pregnancies are not planned (whole different thread right there) but plenty of unemployed/low paid people have children safe in the knowledge the rest of us tax payers will cover them. Its about time this culture ended.

Should we just kill the poor?

Should we give the poor farraris?

You live within your means. Is that so hard for you to swallow.

What's a farrari? Did you mean Ferrari?

Do you not think the welfare state is a good thing? Should we let children go hungry if their parents are poor?
