Andy C
I don't really see the changes as being something that'll get more people using the buses, they're obviously done to save costs. It is quite obviously done to save costs and will see about 50 less buses on the road overall. The selling points will be - simpler network - flexible all operator tickets cheaper - younger bus fleet In terms of whether the new network is better or not will depend on your point of view as there are winners and losers! ---------- Post added 15-10-2015 at 18:43 ---------- How do I get a CityBus week ticket? Flatcap man
I've been looking at the new 31 timetable for Loxley. Possibly a mistake, but on weekdays it shows buses from Loxley to City starting shortly after 5am, but nothing in the opposite direction until 8.30am. Just waiting to see if Travel South Yorkshire can confirm if this is true. If it is that's a drastic cut. If it's an error, how many other timetables have errors in them too? Vaati
I find it interesting that these little signs have gone up in Oughtibrige saying no bus changes...when the 268 is changing times by +10mins. That needs to be sorted. Also I found it quite shocking that a fair few of the older people here didn't know the times were changing. (most don't have computers etc). Fudbeer
I think they've shot themselves in the foot. They have promoted it as service improvements so thats what people are expecting so when they find out their services have actually been cut you are bound to upset people. Andy C
I've been looking at the new 31 timetable for Loxley. Just waiting to see if Travel South Yorkshire can confirm if this is true. If it is that's a drastic cut. If it's an error, how many other timetables have errors in them too? On the current 31/31A timetable the first buses leave town at 07:20 on weekdays and Saturdays, 08:15 on Sundays. On the new 31/31A timetable the first buses leave town at 07:25 on weekdays, 08:35 on Saturdays and 08:30 on Sundays. So only really any cuts on Saturday morning. As you've noticed, some extra buses have been laid on from Loxley to City in the early morning following feedback in the public consultation, compensating for the withdrawl of the 84 at the Loxley end. It should be noted if you are talking purely about travel to Loxley rather than the full 31 route, you also have service 61/62, the first bus from the City Centre to Loxley on that route is 06:
little tank
If they have made travel so much better why not publish data on bus punctuality like on the trains ?
northernboy
If they have made travel so much better why not publish data on bus punctuality like on the trains ? I think they will. They certainly did for 2013 https://www.sypte.co.uk/media.aspx?id=3651
little tank
How can a service be nearly 100% reliable and on 90% run on time ? Did the 51 not run back then ?
Flatcap man
The changes just show what Travel South Yorkshire is - an organisation that's of little use. That's a polite description. These changes are cutbacks that in some cases will put people off bus travel in Sheffield. They didn't run a consultation. They presented a description of changes and the actual changes are somewhat different. I tried to talk to them at a consultation, but couldn't get near because the people had put themselves behind a desk in a corner. Some other experiences of Travel South Yorkshire. Forgetting to process a ticket application and delaying me getting the ticket, two years running, and conveniently losing my letter of complaint even though I hand delivered it to them. They also seem to be selective on replying to tweets and emails. Perhaps one day they might just think about the customer and do something positive.
