TJC1 the use of these carriages could actually increase sexual assaults. Women who don't use the carriage for whatever reason become acceptable targets because if they didn't want to be groped they would have been in the womans only carriage wouldn't they?

have a 'no groping' zone. Or a carriage for perverts.

Certain men cant control these urges. Patently clear.

pretending the problem doesnt exist is not the answer.

You seem to imply certain men can control their urges, until they step foot on a train, at which point they turn into wild sex pests. Otherwise, why stop at segregation on trains? We could go further and segregate schools and workplaces. That would further reduce risk. Better still, we could banish women to the house to keep them away from all those rampant perverts out there. Should they need to go out, they could cover themselves head to toe for their own safety. They'd have to be accompanied by a man, and trail behind them, for their own protection of course.

Its not a proposal. Corbyn asked for views.

Don't be so naive, politicians plant questions to test the water for their ideas all the time. If the idea turns out to be popular, they'll take the credit for it, if the idea bombs then they'll disown it.

Not sure why anyone's, er, siding with one or other camp- given that Mr Corbyn's not going anywhere. Wrong sort of politician, you see, no matter what he leaves on the line.

What do you mean, 'wrong sort of politician?' Do you mean it's because he's a conviction politician?

Am a man. Good idea if it stops women being assaulted by men.

Strange how we demonise cultures that make women hide themselves for fear of them being attacked by men, yet people seem to be in support of this ridiculous idea. Instead of hiding women, he should be pushing for better equality across all spectrums of society with greater prevention of violence against women and harsher sentences.

Of course, it's probably only a rule that he could bring in once he has nationalised the railways again on his route of bankrupting the country.

Very few people are in support of this idea. Those who are, are either die-hard Labour supporters who would praise a speech by a barking dog with a red rosette, and/or people who would certainly not demonise said cultures.

What worries me is that there are enough of these idiots to make Corbyn the next leader of the opposition, and this Neanderthal idea will become policy if the unthinkable happens at the next GE; swept along in a tidal wave of nationalisation and uncontrolled spending and union pandering.

I wouldn't worry too much. Labour supporters are in their own little socialist bubble where they think if they keep saying certain things it makes them true. Examples include 'austerity', 'too far too fast', 'end to boom and bust', 'prudence', and 'we didn't overspend'. Thankfully, most of the electorate can see through them, and outside of their own bubble, opinion polls have them right down on 28%.

You appear to have missed this quote from earlier:

Claire Perry, the Conservative transport minister, had previously told a meeting at her party conference that she was open to the idea of introducing women-only carriages.

So it's not only down to Labour supporters.

Rather than derailing[1] this thread into yet another Labour vs Tory one, we'd be better sticking to discussing the issue of women only carriages.

[1] @RonJeremy - Yes, it was deliberate this time.
