Net migration at record high 330k

The main indicator that immigration isn't working for us comes from use of our own eyes. When we see immigrants they are not living in wealthy areas, driving nice cars and doing well paid jobs. The vast majority live in poor areas and work in low paid jobs or not at all.

Thats your personal prejudice, data shows us white british are more likely to be on the dole than immigrants.

And the vast majority of uk citizens overall live in poor areas, work in low paid jobs.

Not true. Your idea of an immigrant is a non-white unemployed or low-paid worker. If you go to South Kensington there are tons of French nationals who don't fit into this category. There are loads of immigrants in Oxford and Cambridge. If you go to Barnsley there are relatively few but it's not more affluent than South Kensington and Cambridge.

In Sheffield there are loads of overseas students living near Devonshire Green. That is not a poor area.

Your problem is that you have a closed mind and think you can "see immigrants", meaning you base it on their skin colour. You can't differentiate white immigrants from white British by sight. And a lot of the "immigrants" you think you see will have been born here.

The British people are to blame for not being narrow-minded bigots.

Chinese students arent short of a few bob. You have to have money to study here, by definition.

i could go on....millions of immigrants contribute, build businesses, grow wealth.

The figure doesn't tell us much about how effective immigration management is but it is still an indicator flashing red.

Even if you exclude 30% from the total it is still alarming. We also don't know how many of the students are bogus? How many remain? How do we make sure those of no use don't stay? How effective are we at doing this? All questions we don't have answers to... which is also alarming.

The vast majority live in poor areas and work in low paid jobs or not at all. Our eyes tell us our immigration management system is not working... and people trust their eyes more than dodgy stats wheeled out to mislead. The shift to the political right, driven by the impact of immigration mismanagement, will continue until the BS stops and action is taken.

The bolded? Nonsense. That is judging people on the colour of their skin/their appearance. You are again referring to Pagehall as the de facto standard of immigration whilst ignoring those that blend in. The Roma's in Pagehall are outnumbered 2 or 3 to 1 by Chinese students I'd say, I live in Hillsborough with, in the same and nice enough road, another Dutch couple, a Fin, Italian medical doctors, Americans, Indian IT consultants and recently a German number-plate has been showing up as well so I assume they moved into one of the nice flats on Middlewood Road.

But you don't see that because when you walk down the street you just see nice middle-class people who all conform to Zamo's ideal. So your impression on migrants is set by Roma's because they look and behave differently.

No, I think he is trying to control his back-benchers by pretending to look tough. Of course that has the happy side-effect of him looking tough on this issue to the population whilst on the other hand he can continue to appease the employers who call for relaxation on migration laws.

True. He always looks pained talking about the immigration crisis. Its clear its an unwelcome distraction from the economy.

True and not only western europeans.

Indian, Pakistani and bangledeshi communities prize hard work and pursuit of professional careers.

Previous generations came here and applied themselves and passed down work ethic. I don't see them sitting around waiting for hand outs.

These figures do not include 'illegal' immigration.

By definition this has no hard data, but indicators such as NI numbers, can tell a different story.

Other sources estimate 30% of non-EU students remain in the UK, but longer trends of data are needed before this estimate can be relied upon.

Statistics may prove otherwise,

"In the 2011 Census, the Other White ethnic group (77%) had the highest employment rate of all ethnic groups (aged 16 to 64). This was the case for both men (82%) and women (72%) from this group.

The proportion of men aged 16 to 64 who were unemployed was highest in the Other Black (17%), White and Black Caribbean (16%) and Caribbean (15%) ethnic groups. For women it was highest for Black African (12%), White and Black Caribbean (11%) and Other Black (11%) groups.

The highest rates of economic inactivity for men were in the Chinese (40%), Arab (40%) and Gypsy or Irish Travellers (39%) ethnic groups. The highest rates for women were Arab (64%) Bangladeshi (61%), Pakistani (60%) and Gypsy or Irish Traveller (60%).

Of those in employment, men from the Pakistani (57%), Black African (54%) and Bangladeshi (53%) ethnic groups were most likely to work in low skilled jobs. For women the most likely were Gypsy or Irish Traveller (71%), Bangladeshi (67%) and White and Black Caribbean (66%).

Of those in employment, Gypsy and Irish Traveller men (41%) and women (18%) had the highest proportion of all ethnic groups who were self-employed.

Over half (54%) of Bangladeshi men in employment worked part-time (less than 30 hours a week) and just over 1 in 10 worked 15 hours a week or less (12%).

Bangladeshi (56%) and Gypsy or Irish Traveller (54%) women were the most likely to work part-time (less than 30 hours a week). Bangladeshi and Pakistani women had the highest proportion working less than 15 hours a week (23% and 20% respectively).

Young people (aged 16-24) from the Gypsy or Irish Travellers (14%), White and Black Caribbean (13%) and Black Caribbean (12%) ethnic groups had the highest proportion of young people who were unemployed."

all this shows is women from that background dont work and a proportion of men of age? work in low skilled jobs.

It doesnt tell us median income. Or the fact a new generation of kids are being encouraged to pursue careers and education.

Agreed, if the data is pure census data then your interpretation is spot on.

Have you got a source Peter, you are clearly taking this from somewhere? Would be interesting to read the whole document.

With a degree from the wizard of OZ I'd have expected you to find it.

Just shows what a University degree does for you.
