Guest
To complement this thread, give me a list of what, in your opinion, are (or were; choose buildings now gone, if you like) the ten most beautiful buildings in Sheffield. I shall be back after I've had a think...
Fogey
The cooling towers, unlike any other example they were aesthetically considered, much more elegant than the usual cooling tower offering and they were around 70 years old when demolished. crookedspire
The Old Queens Head pub on Pond Street is nice followed by the Town Hall. The old Salvation Army Citadel on Cross Burgess Street would look great if restored.
Set in Stone
Sheffield General Cemetery!
Fogey
The Winter Garden is probably one of the few buildings in Sheffield that I would describe as genuinely beautiful rather than just special or magnificent e.t.c.
taxman
The Lyceum is gorgeous....functionally it's rubbish. There are some quite stunning old buildings around the Fargate/High St area but you need to crane your neck upwards above all the crappy shops. You can't belive that only few years ago the City hall was considered for demolition.

The Library is lovely. The Winter Gardens are great. Pinstone Street too. I also love Firth Hall and loads of the little buildings near Silversmiths.
