crookedspire
Iv been experimenting with Tesco's Everyday Range' anything from cereals to joints of meat. So far its been fairly good a few horrors along the way but overhaul not bad. Iv tired their value soap not bad and the shampoo is ok too. Are we just paying for the name and fancy packaging for our food?
RickyM
On some things, like washing powder and tooth paste I would answer yes. However, on most things like bread, pre-packed meat, cereal and tinned food I would answer not!!
psynuk
in some cases absolutely, in some cases not at all. but you'd need to have worked in the factory to know which is which.
northernboy
I give the own-brand a try, if it's rubbish then I've not wasted much money, if it's good I keep buying it. Most Morrisons own-brand seems good, Waitrose is also good but not cheap so there's no benefit!
TJC1
Swapped razor blades from gilette to own brand basic bic. Does same thing. Washing liquid and washing machine, prefer branded. Seems to go further.
Itrytoplease
you still have to watch the prices, some "home brand" and "Smart price" items are dearer than "Named brands". Many a time I've seen multi buy items dearer than if you bought the single item multi times (if that makes sense)
geared
Yea if they have an offer on it can sometimes work out cheaper. Most supermarket own brand stuff is great, but I do agree no other washing up liquid seems to go as far as Fairy. Meat is something to look out for as well, I remember Tesco value mince smelt and tasted pretty much like dog food when I once used it, :gag::gag:

For instance Cravondale milk was £1.15 per ltr and yet 500ml was 50p. ASDA are also phasing out their "smart price" range in favour of the normal ASDA brand which is now more expensive. tzijlstra
It really depends on the product. A lot of things have a base production process that is the same regardless, but when it comes to more complex products it begins to make a difference. So simple things like dried pasta are fine in home-brands but then when you have meat it becomes a different story, usually cheaper equals cheaper cuts and less well processed meat. alchresearch
I'd got for an Aldi brand over "value" or "smart price" foods.
