Boer War And Sheffield Soldiers

My great-grandfather, Albert Haywood, was in the Boer War. He was born in Heeley but the family moved to Fisher Lane, Attercliffe, shortly afterwards. He was actually in the 1st Leicesters and kept a diary of his experiences, which goes from gungho nationalism to war weariness within a year. He was awarded the Talana and Defence of Ladysmith clasps on his South Africa medal.

He signed up again in August 1914 at the age of 42 but did not leave the UK.
