muckymurphy
saw a post saying to get a metal replacement key @£3 and hold original next to it when you start the car. cant seem to find the post on where to get one now. it may just be the metal part of the key wearing down, so the post said. but I'm not sure. If the key turns fully but does not start, the metal blade is fine. If any part of the key is faulty then it would be the transponder chip. If the transponder chip is faulty, then holding it next to a new key as you turn it wouldn't have any beneficial effect.
drummonds
If you can take the barrel off then soak it in a strong solution of caustic soda for a while. That should soften and break down the wood, and then give it a good rinse in water and spray with WD40. Don't forget to wear gloves and eye protection. as lock barrels are diecast zinc alloy they disolve in causic soda.
dangerousedd
as lock barrels are diecast zinc alloy they disolve in causic soda. well he has managed to get the key in the lock but has intermittent start problems so I don't think he'll be trying any caustic soda
geared
Would probably help if the OP said something about the make/model of car. Someone might have owned one and had a similar problem??
