El Cid
Teachers and parents are being asked to act as traffic wardens with powers to issue parking tickets outside Essex schools. A Thurrock Council pilot scheme, first reported by Your Thurrock, will begin on Monday at a Tilbury primary school. The council said it does not have enough traffic wardens to police illegal parking outside schools. A teaching union spokesman feared it could create conflict between staff and some parents. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-essex-34359046 Barking or what? the_bloke
I wonder how many diversity managers and disability awareness co-ordinators Thurrock council kept on jobs whilst making cuts to traffic wardens, a direct revenue stream for the council? Some parents are completely selfish when it comes to dropping of their little dahlings 400m up the road to the school. They block carriageways, block up junctions, pull in any minor gap without indicating and generally cause mayhem all because little Focaccia and Juniper cannot possibly walk. Well I am glad you think so. When would you like the tickets and sticky envelopes delivering? Just fill them in and stick them on the windscreen of offending vehicles. But dont get carried away

It is a good idea to take some action against the offending drivers, but this could cause ructions between parents and teachers, and the 'traffic warden' parents and the people they ticket. I alwayd used to walk to school, it was about a mile away. But I left school 15 years ago, maybe things have changed.
Gamston
Sounds a good idea . If a teacher or parent is prepared to volunteer and carry out the duty correctly, it's much better than tax payers money being spent by using traffic wardens or the police to sort out problems caused by selfish parents . In many areas libraries are run with volunteers, so to me this is the way forward .
Cyclone
Perhaps everyone in the country should be given this power, at any time, anywhere.
L00b
Perhaps everyone in the country should be given this power, at any time, anywhere....and the green-eyed monster is never going to cause an epidemic of unwarranted tickets and clog appeal channels (in Thurrock or across the country)
Cyclone
Good point, malicious ticketing... Perhaps on a successful appeal, the ticketer should pay the fine... That would make spurious ticketing less likely.
