drummonds
Agreed, why should we have to keep paying and apologising for things our ancestors did.I am guessing that most people in this country will not be proud of what our ancestors did.Even Ainsley Harriets great grandfather was a slave owner ,Ainsley should not feel obliged to apologise for what his great grandfather did,why should any of us have too. What happened should never be forgotten but the world needs to move on. i suspect the folk in jamaica are in a better place than their relatives that are crossing the med in rubber boats. ---------- Post added 30-09-2015 at 11:28 ---------- What do they intend to do with these billions of pounds, buy everyone a plane ticket so they can all go 'home'???? Doubt it if they did they would be applying for assylum to escape some african war or other.
Berberis
http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/sep/29/jamaica-calls-britain-pay-billions-pounds-reparations-slavery Personally I think it won't and should never happen. We should never forget about slavery and the impacts of it along with other large history lessons but even apologising for slavery in my opinion is just stupid it's something the happened centuries ago if it was 50-75 years ago maybe. Should we then deduct the cost of the British Navy used to capture ships with slaves and free them after we outlawed slavery?

Got no problem with that as it benefits us long term. Forking out for our part in slavery a few hundred years ago? Big problem. It wouldn't stop at Jamaica would it. ghost rider
Looks like David Cameron has ruled it out anyway.Common sense to do so. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-34401412
Happ Hazzard
Are the Jamaicans going to move back to Africa, and pay reparations to the original inhabitants of the island? How far back do you want to go? Should we ask the French for reparations for the Norman invasion of 949 years ago?

Corbyn has already said he'd apologise on behalf of the nation if he was PM, after all he's getting lots of practice at saying sorry.
