Hillsborough Hotel Closed?

The following announcement has been supplied to go in the next issue of Beer Matters magazine:

We're Back!

Ten years ago Tom Delaney managed the Hillsborough Hotel for Andrew & Helen Walker and Brigitte Colwell (now Mrs Delaney) was a member of the team at the time.

Brigitte and Tom have now taken over as licensees of the Hillsborough Hotel and long with the new team would like to welcome customers old and new to the Hillsborough.

There will be a new look menu with freshly cooked meals using local suppliers such as John Crawshaw's Butchers and Sheffield Brownie Company - the emphasis will be very much on using our excellent local suppliers.

Unfortunately the brewery has been dismantled but Brigitte and Tom will be looking to reinstate the brewery in the near future, looking to brew some new and exciting beers. In the meantime we will be sourcing our beers from local breweries, again with an emphasis on providing you with excellent high quality beers!

We will also be introducing tasting nights, sampling gin, rum, whisky, port and sherry along with live music and of course Big Jim's quiz. We have other plans in the pipeline for events over the coming months so come on down and say hello!

Excellent news

Mystery solved, thanks Sheffield Forum. I walk past this place every time I go to Aldi and had never been in until a few days before its closure. Found it to be very nice so I was sad to think it would go. Then it looked suspiciously active a few days ago! Sad the brewery's gone for the moment, you could always tell what stage the brewing was at by the smell wafting out onto Wood Street. Either got a whiff of malted milk biscuits or something you'd pull out the bottom of your wheelie bin.

Hope it's not gone forever......having said that it has gone downhill since Dell ran it. We stopped going a couple of years ago when the the beer went downhill and the chav relatives of the landlady used to crowd the bar all night long.

It was brilliant when Dell ran it.......with the music on Sunday night in the conservatory.....and the quiz night to win 8 pints of beer. It all seemed to fall apart when the syndicate bought it. I haven't been in for a few years now.
