mdavidson
I'm looking for people to speak with about Sheffield's 1980's Employment Department. The Employment Department was a significant part of David Blunkett's Labour Council and was ran by John Benington. The goal of the Employment Department was to use city taxes to support local businesses and start cooperative ventures. It also had some responsibility for the Manor Employment Project. My interest in the Department is focused on the legacies of this period: Did the objectives and methods used at the time have lasting impacts? How central was the Employment Department to the continuation of businesses (e.g. Arthur Price, ARK Castings, The Leadmill, Eldon Engineering) that received support? If anyone can offer insights, they would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Mark
