poppet2
I used to come home from school and got my first taste of what central heating felt like. Only to discover it was because we had candles in the hall.
Vague_Boy
Oddly enough my main memory is watching an episode of The Persuaders only to see the TV go blank and my parents get out and light the candles. Reading by candlelight, very Dickensian.

Olive
I was only young and didn't know anything about the political background and the strikes, and I genuinely thought that electricity was just unreliable and the supply broke down a lot! biggsy
I can recall us getting our first 26" colour TV from Wiggies, They delivered it to out lounge, fitted a plug and plugged it in- At that very second all the lights went out!! They thought they'd fused the electric!! Had to wait four hours to watch programmes in colour!! BTW, The telly seemed mahoosive compared with the the old B&W we had previously!! TORONTONY
I was hardened to it having grown up in the 50's with no electric until I was about 8 or 9 in our village.
