tinfoilhat
"Recreation zones". Do they mean "parks"?
Waldo
Is this anything to do with them trying to cut down all the trees?
Happ Hazzard
Why can't they do something to make Sheffield better instead of coming up with meaningless buzzwords?
Solomon1
Today, I heard from a mate that the council are re-branding Sheffield as the planet's first outdoor city. Whilst chopping all it's feckin trees down!! You couldn't make this **** up!
smiggs
This is simply long over due campaign to promote Sheffield's proximity to national parks, the poorly planted trees that make many of our pavements into obstacle courses and roads quickly into dirt tracks without excessively expensive maintenance aren't part of the attraction. Hopman
Judging by the number of mattresses on the pavements around Page Hall, it seems some parts have been outdoor for years.
blowfealt
Whilst chopping all it's feckin trees down!! You couldn't make this **** up! Yeah, excellent point - it does seem a bit hypocritical doesn't it?
Jonny5
Theres a Star article about it here... http://www.thestar.co.uk/news/major-push-to-rebrand-sheffield-as-uk-s-first-outdoor-city-with-recreation-zones-suggested-1-7505474 It's actually a very good idea. Develop a 'new' identity with which outsiders can identify the city and one that does actually tally with what goes off here. It's actually an acknowledgement that we could perhaps appeal to people (tourists!) that are "not from round here". Sheffield's image throughout the UK and further afield is pretty dreadful and based on the Full Monty and Kes. However, this does have the whiff of being the result of one of the councils many many brainstorming sessions so I remain sceptical as to whether then have they have the ability or inclination to pursue the idea and bring it to fruition. Cyclone
It will be interesting to see how this translates into actual things, rather than talk.
Eric Arthur
Why can't they do something to make Sheffield better instead of coming up with meaningless buzzwords? They get paid to come up with meaningless buzzwords. It is the job of every council to protect the jobs of people who do this vital work, or else it would it all end in cost savings, budget reductions and fewer meaningless buzzwords. Sheffield is a leader in this field, check out The Greenest City In Europe, The Safest City In The UK, The City Of Sport, The Number One Choice For Students, The UK's Advanced Manufacuring Centre, The World Snooker Capital, and The Biggest City With The Worst City Centre. The Outdoor City will see Sheffield stake its claim as the UK's Leading Centre For Putting A Badge On What People Have Been Doing For Years Without Any Need For A Meaningless Buzzword.
