William (Willie) Rawson Sheffield artist

I have been turning out the attic and come across a few etchings I bought many years ago. They are by Willie Rawson, a Sheffield artist. Despite many searches I am struggling to come up with much information on him. It seems he exhibited between 1913-14 but how old was he? Year of birth and death, where did he hail from? So many questions! Would be grateful for any assistance. Thanks for reading.

Hi, I just came accross your post. Actually Willie Rawson is in my Family tree as he adopted my Grandfather and I have in my possession all the paperwork for Willie Rawsons family, birth certificates, death certificates etc. He was born on Sept 19th 1865 and died on 6th August 1949. He mainly did drypoint etrchings but also some great water colours of the moorlands around Sheffield. He lived at 321 Chesterfield Road in Sheffield. I think there is some of his work at the ruskin Gallery, so they might know more.

Try searching the National Art Library. There's a lot available through their site including free access to pay sites - http://catalogue.nal.vam.ac.uk/ipac20/ipac.jsp?profile=

For instance all the links on this page - http://www.vam.ac.uk/content/articles/e/electronic-resources-in-the-national-art-library/
