RJRB
On the dam on Rivelin Valley Rd ,just above the fire station there are a pair of ducks amongst the mallards which are white with black markings on the body and head. Is this a species (can't find it if it is) or some sort of mutant. Ta

RJRB
I haven't got a photo but will try to post one as they are always there and have been for several years. They are basically white but with black patches all over......not a black head or black tail. Just mottled all over, but thanks for your interest. cgksheff
Could it be an ancona? https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=ancona+duck+uk&biw=1024&bih=626&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAmoVChMIqv2lwojhyAIVyNQaCh28QwJG#imgrc=_ You can also get mallard x muscovy crosses. I'm assuming that yours are not muscovys as you haven't mentioned a red face. Edited October 26, 2015 by cgksheff

Ta Coming from just down the road, my guess is that it's the Hillsborough Tree Penguins mucking around on a day out (of prison, some would hope). Eeek! … don't know what happened there. I emboldened the specific text I was responding to in the post, but did nothing to make the rest disappear. RJRB
Thanks very much and I think you have solved it. Unfortunately not the rare tree penguin, but the Ancona duck fits the bill (and the plumage)
Becky B
So they are! I always thought they were Indian Running ducks. There used to be four of them, and they sometimes made a trip down to Hillsborough Corner
