Halibut
Breaking news ------ Saudi Arabia has executed 47 people for terrorist offences It really is obscene Shaker Aamer should get a penny compensation from the UK taxpayer . Like (in at least one case) criticising the monarchy. Barbaric, medieval and deeply unjust. I get the kind of feeling that you approve.
Gamston
I for one find the legal system of Saudi abhorrent and medieval. Given the choice I suspect most people would prefer British justice rather than Saudi Arabian justice , especially terrorists .

What's really obscene is that you object so strongly to giving a man some recompense for a great injustice that was done to him, while at the same time appearing to celebrate an ISIS-like orgy of barbaric killing. I am not celebrating anything . My point is Shaker Aamer should be grateful to Britain for lobbying the Americans to get him released to Britain and not Saudi Arabia which is what America wanted . The British taxpayer owes Shaker Aamer nothing , but Shaker Aamer owes the British taxpayer a debt of gratitude to say the very least .
Cyclone
A court could determine if he's owed any compensation. That's what the legal system is for.

Yes, he should be compensated for the injustice he endured, but by the American government. He did say he wouldn't be bringing any court action against the UK government, didn't he? He did say he wouldn't be bringing any court action against the UK government, didn't he? He said that, but never said he wasn't going to receive compensation via the UK taxpayer . We all know there will never be a court case .
