foxy lady
What if there were as many radical extremists as cars over here? I bet the odds in some Muslim countries are vastly different to those here! It also seems that if you're a child on an obvious school bus makes you more of a target, it sounds like genocide to me! Another day another attack. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-35309195 A series of bomb blasts have rocked the Indonesian capital, Jakarta, with gun battles on the streets. The blasts were centred around Thamrin Street, a major shopping and business district close to foreign embassies and the United Nations offices. Police say the situation is now under control, with five suspected attackers among at least seven people killed. It is not yet clear what group was behind the assault, which President Joko Widodo called an "act of terror". "We all are grieving for the fallen victims of this incident, but we also condemn the act that has disturbed the security and peace and spread terror among our people," he said. Images from Jakarta have showed several bodies lying on the road outside a cafe, as well as seriously injured people being carried away. Details remain unclear, but at least one of the blasts hit a Starbucks cafe outside the Sarinah shopping centre and next to a police security post. Eyewitnesses say several attackers entered the cafe and detonated explosives. ---------- Post added 16-01-2016 at 12:51 ---------- Another day another attack. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-35309195 A series of bomb blasts have rocked the Indonesian capital, Jakarta, with gun battles on the streets. And today another attack. http://www.aljazeera.com/news/africa/2016/01/gunfire-explosions-heard-burkina-faso-hotel-160115210231966.html Over 20 people are killed and an unknown number of hostages taken in an attack on a restaurant and hotel in Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso. At least 126 hostages, including a government minister, have been freed and three gunmen have been killed, the Associated Press news agency reported on Saturday, quoting a government official. A senior security official said that armed fighters have rigged with explosives the upper floors of the Splendid Hotel they seized on Friday, slowing the progress of United States and French-assisted Burkinabe security forces seeking to retake it. "What's making our job more difficult is that they've rigged the access to the upper floors," the Burkinabe officer, who asked not to be named, told Reuters. Security forces in the early hours of Saturday began an assault to reclaim the besieged hotel and entered its lobby, part of which was on fire, witnesses said. Diallo Ismael, a human rights activist, said that about 300 people could be inside the hotel popular with foreigners. and another http://america.aljazeera.com/articles/2016/1/19/bomb-blast-peshawar.html Edited January 19, 2016 by foxy lady
spotty dog
Just to let everyone know we have now changed the holiday to Palma nova... We qualified for a change with no charge as there are no flights now to turkey from East Midlands or Doncaster(our chosen airport) this summer. Manchester only flights. little malc
After all this discussion I reckon the safest holiday destination is Scarborough!
DreamBig
It has probably never been so unsafe for a person from a western country to visit predominantly Muslim countries today, especially those in the Middle East. Why do British people potentially put themselves at risk just to seek sunshine? There are many tourist destinations that offer good weather without the risk of possible terrorism, isn't it time the public started being more responsible and safety aware rather than going to dangerous locations and then screaming 'why hasn't our government done something' when anything happens? My god, this is such a lame statement from a person who clearly hasn't been much further away than Scarborough itself. Not everyone goes on holiday just to seek sunshine mate. These countries are filled with heritage, culture and history - going there is a chance to indulge in their culture. Yes of course there is a risk, and it's unfortunate times. There's a risk everywhere though mate - for example, you're gonna be more at risk of getting murdered in central america than in a middle eastern country. Let's just all go to Benidorm for a bit of sun and then head straight back to England. Broaden your horizons
