Nagel
No, ISIS's aim isn't to take over the world. As I said earlier, the battle is for Muslims hearts and minds. Western consumerism is tempting the islamic followers away, so ISIS wants to create conflict between the West and Muslims to polarise opinions and draw their followers back. They also want the West to act disproportionately to suggest that out values and ethics are nothing more than a sham. We will win this conflict by sticking to our principles, if we break our values and traditions ISIS will win. The aims of ISIS are analysed in this article. It's longish (10 minutes reading?), but absolutely worthwhile. The article pretty much concludes that ISIS will self destruct - http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2015/03/what-isis-really-wants/384980/
tinfoilhat
The best thing the developed nations can do for a start is stop funding ISIS ---------- Post added 19-11-2015 at 23:51 ---------- Well they're negotiating with somebody, over the price they get for their oil To the best of my knowledge, developed nations stopped funding ISIS pretty quickly. Wealthy individuals possibly still are either directly or by buying artefacts from archeological sites ISIS are blowing up. They might be unislamic but they are still worth a few quid! If the analysis is correct, then it requires a complete rethink as to how "the West" might react to them.
Penistone999
Lots of lose talk about bombing and attacking ISIS. Don't people realise that is exactly what ISIS want. As an aside where are we going to get the money from to fund a campaign? Yeah , lets sit down over tea and scones and try and reason with a bunch of Islamic lunatics who want to blow everyone to bits. Good idea.
