Contaminated diesel

Recommended Posts

I've not heard of that sorta thing come from contaminated fuel before.

Usually with diesel the contamination is water in the fuel, on the odd occasion a dozy delivery driver will stick petrol in the diesel tank and cause havoc.

but I've not heard of iron filings before.

iron shavings are usually caused by the injection pump failing, the ramps and rollers on the high pressure side do this and flake bits off into the fuel stream and make the running rough which seems like bad fuel.

This problem cloggs the injectors and causes misfiring and power loss ,but the bits wouldn't be found in the tank.
