Junior Doctors row: 98% vote to strike

Recommended Posts

Hang on a second. The doctors are trying to maintain the terms of the contact that they were employed on. Maintain their rates of pay and maintain the mechanisms that currently enforce the hours that they're allowed to work.

With this mentality the doctors would never see a pay rise

Could you point us to the concessions that the doctors union has made? Thanks.

They have agreed to accept a lower rate for anti social hours, slight reduction in what are classed as anti social hours and a lower rate of increase of between 4 and 7% compared to 11%.

The position is different for the Drs as they are uncumbents and its the government seeking change.

You haven't explained anything.

Here's the BMA's argument for people to read and make up their own minds::http://www.bma.org.uk/working-for-change/junior-and-consultant-contract-home/ddrb-recommendations-analysis-for-juniors/premium-time

The removal of the pay premium will mean that the junior doctors will be worse off, even with the 11% proposal.

No it doesn't, only a minority will be worse off, the majority will be better off.

Most employees don't get a premium for working outside the hours of 7am to 7pm Monday to Friday, they should get the same hourly rate no matter what time of day they work.

This Tory government has successfully demoralised the nursing profession and has now started the same process with doctors.

All they will succeed in doing is pushing out damn good doctors and nurses and further reduce the NHS so they can justify the 'need' to privatise.

Give us what we want or we will strike is a demand not a negotiation.

Actually that's not what they are doing. They arent seeking anything new it's the government imposing by a unilateral imposition of terms. People are allowed to withdraw their labour, but the long term effects will be more people leaving the profession to work for places that offer them better terms and fewer of the brightest candidates applying for medicine.

In your opinion, the junior doctors are disagreeing. I am amazed that you believe that the junior doctors are striking over an 11% pay rise!!!!! You really couldn't make your position up. A big well done to you!
