Junior Doctors row: 98% vote to strike

Recommended Posts

It is just an old fashioned union led pay dispute.
If you add conditions, then yes I think it is, but then arent all employment disputes? The difference is they are highly skilled and not easy to replace, they can think for themselves and they have overwhelming public support. The PR and way its been handled has been poor.

I would think quite a lot of them will work for the new contract, but you will have a less motivated workforce, which means you will get less out of them.

Are doctors just like any other profession?

I would have thought motivation would be the patients, not their hours, money or ego.

Doctors are just towing the union line regardless?

And what about the politicians, just in it for their own ego?

Its a mix. If you work too many hours, then you cant perform at optimum. If you dont have enough money and fall too far behind your peers, then you have less quality of life outside including where you live and raising a family.

What they can do to the doctors they can do to other NHS staff.

Next the biggie: nurses

Hunt is impatient to get on with that and he needs to leave himself enough time before 2020 to fight that battle.

If you are on a till in Morrisons you may over charge someone.

If you are a doctor it is entirely possible that someone will die.

That has already been done.

Nurses are already demoralised and many have voted with their feet.

There's plenty more he can do. I know a few nurses and they are expecting cuts to their unsocial hours payments.

True to say that will be the next nail in the coffin.

The NHS runs on the goodwill of the staff that work within it.

Take that away and it will fail.

This Tory government is chipping away at that goodwill and it will not last for much longer.

It sounds selfish but I am glad I am nearer the end of my career than the beginning.
