Is it time UK stopped turning a blind eye to Saudi executions?

Recommended Posts

How bad would it have to be for the UK to begin sanctions against Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia carrying out 'unprecedented wave' of executions

By Caroline Hawley World affairs correspondent

So far this year, more than 150 people have been executed - the highest figure recorded by human rights groups for 20 years.

Crimes that carry the death penalty include murder, adultery, treason, gay sex, drug offences, sorcery and witchcraft, and apostasy.

It's inconceivable that the UK would break off trade with Saudi Arabia let alone call for sanctions. We've just had a vote to bomb Syria, a close neighbour of Saudi Arabia, using Brimstone missiles. As Saudi Arabia are the only other nation to whom we've sold these is it too much of a stretch of imagination that the use of them in Syria is just a demonstration of their capability?

Saves the Saudi princes coming over here for a simulated attack on tethered goats, perhaps.

What is it you object to the number of executions or the crimes people are executed for?

If we cut off relations with Saudi, then would we be doing the same with other countries who execute people? China Executes more than all the others put together. America is #5 on the list.

I agree. Politicians blustering and 'raising concerns' is just pointless posturing.

We should accept its their gaff and their rules, while ensuring that in our gaff our rules apply and they are not allowed to use their cash as they have been doing to infect Britain with their backwards wahabi ways.
