Is it my imagination, or is their growing hatred for the religious?

Who's doing the laughing? And who says we're the most intelligent species on the planet?

Er, please point me in the right direction of most intelligent species on earth. We use this intelligence to inflict suffering and death between us, why are we not the laughing stock?

Maybe intelligence isn't all it's cracked up to be?

Well, that is, when it's without wisdom and insight...

From what I've seen there seems to be more needling on the political threads than the ones pertaining to religion but I'm just a new boy.

Religion doesn't seem to work like that; it has certain ideas at the heart of it which we call sacred or holy or whatever. That's an idea we're so familiar with, whether we subscribe to it or not, that it's kind of odd to think what it actually means, because really what it means is 'Here is an idea or a notion that you're not allowed to say anything bad about; you're just not. Why not? — because you're not!' If somebody votes for a party that you don't agree with, you're free to argue about it as much as you like; everybody will have an argument but nobody feels aggrieved by it. If somebody thinks taxes should go up or down you are free to have an argument about it, but on the other hand if somebody says 'I mustn't move a light switch on a Saturday', you say, 'Fine, I respect that'.

The odd thing is, even as I am saying that I am thinking 'Is there an Orthodox Jew here who is going to be offended by the fact that I just said that?' but I wouldn't have thought 'Maybe there's somebody from the left wing or somebody from the right wing or somebody who subscribes to this view or the other in economics' when I was making the other points. I just think 'Fine, we have different opinions'. But, the moment I say something that has something to do with somebody's (I'm going to stick my neck out here and say irrational) beliefs, then we all become terribly protective and terribly defensive and say 'No, we don't attack that; that's an irrational belief but no, we respect it'.

Douglas Adams

Religion should be open to discussion in the same way as politics.

What we are seeing is a greater intolerance towards Muslims because of:

1. Fear mongering and ignorance

2. Closet racism (most Muslims are non-white)

3. Concerns about immigration/cultural identity

Most of this "growing hated" isn't coming from atheists (there aren't enough of us) from from people who profess to be Christians (Mr. Trump has described himself as a Christian although from his statements it sounds as if he hasn't read the New Testament yet).

So to answer the OP's question, there is a growing hatred towards one religion in particular.

I don't need to look at the list because I know it's fact that more people have died over religion... In fact come to think of it we're both right religion is and has always been used as a guise over socialism/capitalism. Fact is war has and always will happen, by eradicating religion you take the mask off the media/governments reasons for any war.
.........you really need to explain your facts???.....and lets include Stalin and Hitler into the equation!

The majority of victims of Islam are Muslims. That is one reason why I challenge religious views. I will deride and ridicule faith in the hope that its adherents will wake-up and see the world without blinkers.

Christianity killed and tortured apostates and sinners until it was forced to take a more tolerant approach. Wanting to kill homosexuals isn't a view only held by some Muslims, Look at African Christians.

Why we still encourage this rubbish to be taught as 'fact' in schools astounds me.
