They're all praying to the same god!

An awful lot of the general discussions on the forum and in world affairs in general are about the warring amongst the Yahwists. It seems that even those of us who have no interest in praying to the god of Abraham can't escape being somehow held responsible for attempting to stop and/or failing to stop one group of them from slaughtering another, or anybody else they happen to bump into. Of course this is nothing new. It's what they do.

Over the past hundred years in particular it's become increasingly clear that the Universe is not subject to interference from deities. It runs on rules. We know not everything, but an awful lot about what those rules are.

Furthermore, in the last several years, it's become pretty clear that the Universe does not require a creator. It now seems very likely that the energy of the entire Universe adds up to zero. This arises from the discovery of dark energy, which brings the universe into energy balance. A Universe with zero total energy can pop into existence just from a fluctuation in vacuum energy. No creator required.

Without a creator and without any gods to impress in the hope of magical favours or other rewards, the sheer insanity of mass slaughter over the fine detail of what these gods may want in return for their magical favours is even clearer than before.

I miss the days when we used to war over the matter of socialism vs capitalism. At least there we have a genuine disagreement and somebody's probably right. These theological wars are as crazy as a bag of ferrets.

Even if one of the main branches of the Abrahamic religions wins, it'll be about 7 and a half seconds before they're fighting amongst themselves. I expect this will continue until there's only one Yahwist left who will die of thirst praying for rain when he should have been digging a well.

Sometimes I think we should just give up trying to prevent them from killing each other and confine ourselves to defending everybody else. For now, I'd say give the non-Abrahamic religions the benefit of the doubt as they don't seem to cause nearly as much trouble. That leaves us with only half as many people to defend and reasonable confidence that after we save them, they won't turn around and try to kill us.

My God knew that when he created the vacume with such precision the universe would pop into existance and create everything you see, he also told me to kill everyone that disagrees with me and that the Gods other people pray to are false God.

The broadcaster Jonathan Meades has an interesting theory as to why monotheistic beliefs arose in the Middle East. Basically it is because of the barren nature of the landscape: there are no dense forests, no impenetrable swamps, no inaccessible mountain tops, no regions of snow & ice; in short there is no mystery in the landscape; there is nothing for the imagination to weave fantasies around. The only inaccessible thing is the night sky especially the awe-inspiring desert night sky; hence only one mystery, hence only one god.

If your dog has diarrhoea or picking up the poo presents a risk of injury, if its a guide dogs or a dog trained to help a physical impairment you are not required to pick up.

I thought I posted this in another topic, thought I'd gone mad when it wasn't where it was meant to be.

No it doesn't. You don't get "high on God", unless you're Ned Flanders.

Tell that to

guys!

Tell that to anyone who's not a Hindu in India.
