They're all praying to the same god!

Oh look it's another intolerant non believer.

What is it you expect of tolerance?

Nobody's banning you from praying. Or any other harmless practises which your god calls for. Nobody's denying you work. Nobody's limiting your freedom of speech.

Does tolerance now require us to surrender our freedom of speech so as not to offend?

Im curious. You've always seemed very rational for a theist.

Having decided that there's a god running the show, how did you decide which one of the many hypothesised gods to go with?

Having chosen that god, how did you just which set of his prophets were genuine so as to settle on Sunni Islam?

Slagging off religious people is being intolerant in my view....

They may have a different opinion on people's religious beliefs but I haven't seen them slagging any people off, can you quote an example for us?

I don't see how their differing views are intolerant...

Intolerant-

Not tolerant of views, beliefs, or behaviour that differ from one’s own.

Tolerant-

Showing willingness to allow the existence of opinions or behaviour that one does not necessarily agree with.

You're completely entitled to dislike their opinion that religious beliefs are stupid and they're completely entitled to have that opinion but they're not trying to prevent you from having your beliefs and they've not made any personal attacks.

I think you're stretching the definition of tolerance a bit.

Sounds to me like you want special status for religious "faith" in the form of immunity from criticism.

So your freedom of religion requires denying me my freedom of speech. You're out of luck there. I treat peoples' views on cosmogenesis and the supernatural no differently from any other views.

Furthermore given the impact these views have on world affairs and national security, I can't imagine anything more important to scrutinise.

You don't see the socialists on here who I routinely give a hard time to complaining that I'm an intolerant capitalist for criticising their ideas.

If anything, I'm harder on them.

How you 'correctly' pronounce yhwh in English has got to be a contender for most nitpicking pointless unprovable pendantry of the year tbh.

Will 'the jews imaginary friend' do in lieu?

Indeed. For an all powerful superbeing that created everything he seems to have been a tad clumsy as to where his various creations were on the evolutionary curve in revealing his various 'final messages' to. If i were super god 'can they read and write?' Would have been high in my list of questions to ask before giving the 'i'm only going to say this once' speech.

Its a better explanation than a make believe God did it.

Just look at the facts.

1. The vacume of space exists and its very unlikley that at some point it didn't exist, so its always been there.

2. God doesn't exist.

Of the two which is more likley to have caused the big bang, something we know exists or someone that doesn't exist.

:hihi:

Also not a very powerfull God if it can only tell one cave dweller instead of telling everyone at the same time.

Tolerance only asks we treat people fairly, not the stupid vodoo wah they believe in.

Not intollerant, just honest. If you want people to **** you off for living in a mental cave then ask a politician.

I would think most right minded people would be intolerant of some of the beliefs and behaviour of the religiouse.

I can tolerate someones belief in a God, but most people with a belief in God also subscibe to an intolerant religion with some barbaric practices. So whilst the indifidual might not act in a way that is consistant with their religion, by supporting the religion they helping to perpetuate the intolerant and barbaric parts of it.

Tolerance means putting up with something, not approving it.

I tolerate gay, transsexual, Muslim, Christian, Hindu, cyclists, lefties, rightist and all sorts.

I even tolerate stupid people. This is really hardest part.

I don't approve some of it and I am not afraid to say it.

And I have full right to express my opinion no matter how unpopular or politicly incorrect it might be.

But I won't punch them in face. That is tolerance.

I don't want special status for religious faith and being offensive can work both ways.

I don't make a habit of being offensive/ridiculing non believers but it seems that some on SF see it as their right to do this.

I'm a believer of live and let live and treating people how they treat me.

I have never pushed my religion onto anyone else and I also respect the right of others to not have a belief in religion but the impression I get is that some non believers always take the **** out of religion/religious people etc with phrases like sky pixie worshippers or deluded and what not under the banner of freedom of speech.

I'm off to work now before I get ambushed by the non religious.....
