Campaign grows to switch the building of HS2 station to Sheffield city

Recommended Posts

People always on here moaning about the death of the city centre and now they want to move a major railway development out to meadowhall.

Do you think Leeds would allow their HS2 station to be in Headingley?

What benefit would having HS2 stop in the town centre have on the town centre? I can't think of one.....

I can however guarantee a massive increase in traffic around an already busy area I.e. The train station.

If the alternative is no HS2 at all, like we are getting now, then yes

The whole point of a parkway station is that there's free and plentiful car parking. Drive to Meadowhall and park is much quicker/cheaper for most than drive to Sheffield city centre and not park

Im old enough to remember everyone saying exactly the same thing about the Euro tunnel. That it was too expensive and pointless etc etc

And do you remember every one saying the same about the 2012 Olympics? The event was a month long and cost £10bn but in the end we all enjoyed it.

Our lives would not change if we didnt build HS2....we wouldnt get a cheque for £100 sent to everyone

Our country is over populated and we need as much infrastructure as possible. Get it built.

The only problem is that the technology is already now out of date. Maglev ultra-high speed and hyperloop are already being rolled-out in more advanced countries.

It's the same with Hinkley Point - the technology is going to be obsolete by the time it is complete (100% renewables is estimated for 2050)

Confirmed route is

"The re-alignment of the route between Derbyshire and West Yorkshire. The route in

South Yorkshire will be the route consulted in 2016 which in part follows the M1 and M18,

serves Sheffield City Centre via a spur from the HS2 line and includes provision for a

northern junction allowing trains to run between Sheffield and Leeds city centres using

HS2."

Loss of proposed jobs in NE Derbyshire due to loss of train depot- to Leeds.

Is the train depot you refer to the one in Staveley?
