Campaign grows to switch the building of HS2 station to Sheffield city

Recommended Posts

Faster Sheffield London times are possible now.

Current re signalling, new track, track realignment and electrification will allow higher speeds.

But capacity will not increase because the track is full south of Bedford because of slower stopping commuter trains and too few platforms at St Pancras.

Journey times will not be allowed to be reduced for the same reasons.

Punctuality will improve as trains can make time up more easily.

Vanity will push more journeys to the 2hr mark.

An example of how HS2 will improve Leicester and London commuters journeys

But still capacity will increase and journey times reduce as technology improves. The capacity of stations will increase as technology improves. In 30 years we probably won't need the capacity as technology will improve and folks can work more on line.

Probably don't need to waste money and dig up green belt for a railway we don't need.

Since the start of the information age and good home working arrangements became available train travel has increased as have the number of cars on the road. Human contact still plays a vital role in doing business and there's no sign of that stopping. I would suggest also that an increase in home working will mean an increase in long range travel people in Sheffield will happily take a job in London or Birmingham in the knowledge that they'll need to travel there once a week, journeys that hs2 will excel at.

Tell that to the Government department of 'Innovation' which wants to close it's Sheffield office and move 250 jobs to London because the technology isn't good enough. And will demand that those who work in London spend at least 3 days a week in the office.

The pure fact of the matter is that we should be moving more jobs out of London and then we wouldn't need a HS2 service anyway.

Thats the truth right there, there's no reason for many government departments to be in the middle of London.

but there they all are :confused::confused:

If you build a 250 mile long rail line through land that didn't previously have a rail line, you cut one side of the line off from the other. If you run trains at 200 miles per hour along those lines the only way folk can get from one side to the other will be where they choose to build a very expensive bridge.

Isn't that true, to an extent, of all areas divided by a motorway; or (earlier) divided by a then-new railway line; or (earlier still) divided by a canal?

It certainly is, and is something that needs to be weighed against any possible advantages. This is a problem for the majority of communities along the route, because unlike a motorway or a canal or a conventional railway, unless the trains stop close to your patch there will be no advantage just a lot of grief.

cameron lied during elections to get voters from UKIP to vote for CON, now he has to fight to stay in Europe because his lying was an election promise to steal Nigel Farage voters.

This HS thing is at the moment nothing more than a dishonest crutch to keep international faith in UK currency by pretending it is developing and improving to stop the pound from falling on the international markets at the moment. They will play with it and if it does pass the small possibility to go any further throw all the cost on a future labour government.

Just by announcing great plans and intentions you can manipulate values and stability of international financial markets. UK desperately needed this when they started HS.

I don't think they really care about HS just like this whole referendum thing they lied about during elections.

But they will be putting down lines in under 20 years. Are you imagining an electable Labour government that soon?

Or in the real world. Labour have only had one electable leader in the last 45 years. That was Blair and he stole Tory policies. Leaders like Corbyn and Foot can't see that and remain unelectable. But there you go. Perhaps after Corbyn Labour will find another Tory to lead them.
