Campaign grows to switch the building of HS2 station to Sheffield city

Recommended Posts

The switch to the city centre will save close to a billion quid??

Thats something no-one has mentioned before, previously it was going to cost several billion with the big tunnel they proposed.

Yes, they have now factored in the faster link between Northern cities that is planned this is required to stop in Sheffield City centre it makes little sense to have two high speed stations in Sheffield.

The building of a new high speed railway between Manchester and Leeds???

Yes essentially they intend to run more frequent fast trains Manchester - Leeds - Sheffield since they are already building track for hs2 to Sheffield to Leeds they don't need anymore so long as the trains end up in the city centre.

Sounds like a good plan to me. Shame it will most likely be scuppered.

So to get to Sheffield from Manchester you have to go via Leeds..... a lot of sense in that !?!?!

As for the overjoyed souls in the Tinsley area.... don't be the line North to Leeds is still coming through there but without the station at Meadowhall.

Barnsley and Wakefield previously forgotten about will have a new Parkway station built on the direct line for them and all because Sheffield trains will have the slow trek from HS2 at Chesterfield onto current tracks through Dronfield, Bradway Tunnel, Millhouses and Heeley.

Sheffield Council think they have won but in effect have lost with the fact that the trains will not now be high speed all the way.
