Why have you missed Kings Cross and St Pancras off? They serve the City just as much. Theres also the difficulty of separating general commuters from those just destined for the City. ---------- Post added 16-11-2016 at 16:23 ---------- Pedant mode on: it is on the list yes, but then the post says specifically that the only station serving the City of London is Fenchurch St. Think you are correct. ---------- Post added 16-11-2016 at 16:28 ---------- How many mainline terminal stations are in London? Kings X, St Pancras, Marylebone, Euston, Paddington, Victoria, Fenchurch Street, Waterloo, Liverpool Street How many serve the City of London? 1. Fenchurch Street. and that's it. They have this thing called the Tube. Sheffield has a thing called a Supertram which is far nicer than the Tube. SCC really dropped the ball on this one. Besides not understanding the stations, then I think you fail to appreciate that anyone in Sheffield (unless theylive over that side of the city) are going to prefer going to the city centre rather than all the way out to meadowhall. Its more time and hassle. In London you have less choice as you are most likely commuting into work. In Sheffield mthen commuters living in the west can go out to Chesterfield or the city centre. Is the time saved advantage largely neutralised by the extra journey time to get to Meadowhall?

Not if there's sufficient free/cheap carparking at the Meadowhall station. It can take nearly an hour to get into the city centre from S10/S11 at peak times, so switching to the less-used routes across east Sheffield could well be quicker
the_bloke
What's the obsession with thinking the only people who'll use HS2 are from Dore and Totley? With the expected cut in 'slow' mainline services to London once HS2 is live, HS2 will be for everyone, including people who *gasp* don't live in Sheffield but on the outskirts where Meadowhall is a quicker and easier journey than the city centre. Or are trains 'just for thems posh people int big houses'?
Obelix
Bloody hell. Your ignorance has really excelled itself this time. Have you not heard of Liverpool Street? To forget Liverpool Street when discussing train stations that serve the City is like forgetting Heathrow when talking about London airports. There's also Cannon Street, Moorgate and London Bridge. Train stations that is, not airports. Liverpool Street is in the list.... Cannon street - Moorgate - London Bridge. You forgot to add Blackfriars - which is actually in the city. How did you forget that one? The reason I excluded Cannon street et al is these are not really long distance termini as they serve local commuter trains. I listed the termini that bring people in from far away like HS2 will to Sheffield - and these are all remote from the City and people change to a Tube. Not withstanding all the people that get a train to London termini and then to Canary Wharf via the DLR.... same principle...

Blue Day
It took them how many years to sort out access / parking at Sheffield station and it's STILL shocking at rush hour. Much more room at the proposed site near the M1 for access for private vehicles / buses / taxis etc
Obelix
Besides not understanding the stations, I've understood the stations perfectly I've travelled the area enough. You've not understood the point being made and so decide an ad hom attack is in order because I dared to say something against your wonderful city... Or whatever. I really don't care TBH. ---------- Post added 16-11-2016 at 18:11 ---------- It took them how many years to sort out access / parking at Sheffield station and it's STILL shocking at rush hour. Cyclone
I am really against HS2 They should upgrade existing track HS2 is supposed to connect city centres People in Sheffield won't go to Meadowhall to use HS2 as it might takes 3/4 hr to get to Meadowhall Three quarters of an hour? From where? Doncaster perhaps. Given that meadowhall is about 10 - 15 mins from the existing station by car, or 5 mins by train, if it takes someone 45 mins to reach meadowhall, then it would currently take them at least 30 mins to reach the station. But (if the meadowhall station happened) they'd save far more than that 15 mins on the subsequent journey. Given the options though, Meadowhall or nothing, where do you think they'll go to use HS2 now? It's a good example of cutting off your nose to spite your face.
