Immigrant violence at calais putting lives at risk

Recommended Posts

Because England still has a pretty good reputation in the world community as being a fair and tolerant nation.

No , we have a reputation in the world for being mugs ,and being a soft touch there for immigrants to take advantage of.

Reasons why some asylum seekers choose the UK.

In no particular order.

1. Offers them a more tolerant society as refugees are often feleeing war and persecution.

2. Offers them a future or at least a chance to eventually find employment and a safe life.

3. Community, there are often established communities.

4. Family. they may have relatives here.

5. They can get assistance i.e somewhere to live and support/ food/ healthcare.

6. Language a lot of them speak English.

7. they idealise the UK from what theyve seen on TV.

8.Education system for themselves and their family.

9. Better economy.

Compared to its size the UK gets the lowest (out of 19 countries) applications for asylum per 100,000.

In raw applications at least 6 other countries get more. Its far from the most popular destination, so its a myth and many more asulum seekers go to other nations.

You cna see on the grpahics here.

Oh , they defiantly get number 5 , at our expense

The people who sadly died the other day, were crossing from Turkey, along with many other people.

But Turkey is not under attack, and is economically strong compared to many other places in the area. People are safe there. Why are they still trying to get to places like Britain? And are they really refugees, or economic migrants. Turkey is a huge, secular country and relatively modern in outlook. They don't need to make these perilous crossings.

Maybe they're Kurds fleeing their war against Isis? The Turks are not exactly welcoming towards the Kurds to say the least.

That still doesn't explain why 2500 people (plus kids) would rather live in the cold and filth and risk death rather than claim asylum in France. I don't get it.

Who knows? It could be one of many reasons, each of them may have their own reasons. One thing is for sure, when you look at the refugee numbers across Europe the 2500 that you mention are a tiny part of the problem.

They are.

We should let them in and process them properly. It really wouldn't hurt anyone.
