Immigrant violence at calais putting lives at risk

Recommended Posts

Do you have any basis for how much money this violence/disruption problem has caused the UK and then compare that with the cost and impact of operations against ISIS?

We havent really expended a load of munitions on ISIS, we only had 8 planes out there before the strikes on Syria. We are a small part.

It might be a growing problem, but I expect its nowhere in the same league as ISIS. the Frencg routinely end up bloccking the Tunnel and ports for days when they wnat soemthing to strike over.

It has cost ,and continues to cost haulage companies thousands of pounds in delays and damage to their vehicles .

Can you really envisage The Jungle being allowed to happen in the UK? What the hell are the French doing to let it get to this state of affairs in the first place?

Just imagine the Dover council leader asking the French government to come over to erect fences and control the border and police the transport infrastructure. They would be a laughing stock just like the Kent police and the UK government would be.

It's a French problem and we should be sending them a bill for having to sort it out.

If the French stopped them entering France in the first place, then they wouldnt have immigrants camped out in Calais trying to illegally enter Blighty.

If you bother to read the thread, then youll see the point has already been covered. Thousands of £s in delays is pretty meaningless.

If you bothered to read the thread then youll see it was a comparitive v the ISIS threat.

It must be terrible being a lorry driver down there. I saw in the papers that a bunch of people threw a metal bar through a drivers windscreen. Are these drivers being looked after enough??

Not the sort of attitude we want in our country, I am all for accepting refugees from Syria, but the vulnerable must be given priority.

The lorry drivers are just doing their jobs and the bunch of people you mention have no empathy or refuse to acknowledge this.

The refugees are the vulnerable! They have no homes. no jobs, very limited access to healthcare and often very little access to food and clean sanitation.

Because England still has a pretty good reputation in the world community as being a fair and tolerant nation.

Well according to max the uk is way down the list and only a handful want our poor welfare system, crumbling nhs and shortage of housing, perhaps they are unaware of this.

Reasons why some asylum seekers choose the UK.

In no particular order.

1. Offers them a more tolerant society as refugees are often feleeing war and persecution.

2. Offers them a future or at least a chance to eventually find employment and a safe life.

3. Community, there are often established communities.

4. Family. they may have relatives here.

5. They can get assistance i.e somewhere to live and support/ food/ healthcare.

6. Language a lot of them speak English.

7. they idealise the UK from what theyve seen on TV.

8.Education system for themselves and their family.

9. Better economy.

Compared to its size the UK gets the lowest (out of 19 countries) applications for asylum per 100,000.

In raw applications at least 6 other countries get more. Its far from the most popular destination, so its a myth and many more asulum seekers go to other nations.

You cna see on the grpahics here.
