Why isn't this classed as a terrorist attack?

Recommended Posts

I have as much , if not more understanding what terrorism is as anyone else who has posted on this thread .

The issue here is the Police never made comments such as " We are not ruling out terrorism "

...and?

They didn't say they were ruling out terrorism.

If you knew so much about terrorism you'd know that unnecessarily bringing the subject up (and linking the word to the situation without reason to do so) in times of such tension isn't a good thing.

at the early stages of the investigation while at the same time said they said the device had "the potential to cause serious injury if he had exploded "

You keep banging on about this, is that what you think constitutes terrorism? :suspect:

I believe in the current climate, if the suspect had a stereotype Muslim appearance the Police , the local and national media as well as SKY News would have used the word terrorism somewhere in their comments .
What leads you to believe this? Is it cases such as San Bernardino? Oh, wait..... Edited by RootsBooster

It was a terrorist attack and should be treated as one . I agree with the OP's sentiments .

Well, it's a free country and you're both entitled to be 100% wrong.

terrorist

ˈtɛrərɪst/

noun

noun: terrorist; plural noun: terrorists

a person who uses terrorism in the pursuit of political aims

Some lone wackydoodle nutter with (most likely) mental health issues is not a terrorist.

But later police revealed the device was nothing more than an asthma inhaler, a firelighter, matches and toilet paper.

As a result, police have confirmed that the terror alert status has been elevated to "Trivial".

Because the press are not interested in the truth dude

Just in causing division

It would help if you could acknowledge that

The media is manipulating a frenzy of unfounded fear

The UK's problem is with Daesh

NOT MUSLIMS

And NOT ISLAM

It would be helpful to everyone if you could get on board with this Eric

And IS are Muslims and follow Islam devoutly, they also have some support amonsk British Muslims, and it is this support that is the problem for the UK.

Not quite right. The UKs problems is with terrorists and terrorist organisations, its not just IS. They have some common characteristics and extremist religious views.

Its quite easy to differentiate them from law abiding Muslims though.

The latest Islamic terroist attack in the US would suggest otherwise, 2 apparntly law abiding Muslims leave their child behind to go out of kill people because of their religouse beliefs.

I'm no expert on these things but terrorism isn't the first thing that comes into my mind when an asthma inhaler, firelighter, matches and toilet paper is found on fire in a toilet.

There's probably a discussion without tea and biscuits in the Chief Constable's office tomorrow for the officer that called the bomb squad instead of the fire brigade.

,

These are fair points , but the overreaction by the Police is a different issue . The statement from the Police was made by a senior officer and not by the tea lady . People are using hindsight to justify their views rather than the facts which were released shortly after the incident occurred .

Sadly mass shootings are a common occurrence in America , so it is understandable terrorism wasn't the first conclusion people jumped to .

I have already commented about your other opinions .

No hindight needed since the statement by a senior officer didn't mention terrorism. They had probably realised what a Horlicks they had made of it all by then, which would answer Mafya's original question nicely.

It is a shame as mafya was clearly so desperate to find a major non muslim terrorist act, rather than an asthmatic buying his bog rolls & firelighters.

Both Mafya and I agree the reason terrorism wasn't mentioned is because of the appearance of the suspect seen on CCTV .

The bomb squad will be taking the **** out of the police for months for this one, but at least they got a day out instead of another day in barracks polishing their robot.

Agreed ...........................
