Is it based on class?

It is a war between right and left, that is what you get with a two party system.

No, it's based on class.

It depends on what you mean by right and left.

Are you referring to liberals (no that doesn't mean liberal democrats), socialists, progressives or some combination?

It is possible to believe in prioritising the welfare of the poor in politics without building hatred and resentment for the more successful.

Who will do that? The conservatives certainly create hatred and resentment of the poor.

In what universe?

Because of the Conservatives (and to an extent the lib dems) the working poor no longer pay income tax. There's serious talk about NI going the same way.

The Conservatives have a low tolerance for scroungers and those who otherwise play the system. But then so do the people. Those who genuinely need benefits are not scroungers and nobody resents supporting them.

Perhaps you could offer some evidence of this "hatred and resentment of the poor".

I have received JSA, child benefit and housing benefit in the past. How would you decide if I was "a scrounger"?

Are all people that are genuinely entitled to benefits not scroungers?

The above attitude, that benefit claimants are scroungers, comes from the heart of the Conservative party.

Have you actually read his post - well you've highlighted it. :loopy:

A scrounger is someone who borrows from or lives off others.

If you did this you were a scrounger, that is how it is decided. You look at the definition of a word and see if it applies to you.

There's no point trying to pretend I said something different to what I actually said when it's all there in black and white. That doesn't work.

As I have said many, many times a scrounger minimises their work and education. They play the system. They do not try to make themselves useful and are content to live indefinitely partly or wholly on the proceeds of the work of others. They can be hard to identify for the system, but they most certainly exist and aren't hard to identify amongst those you have direct contact with.

Benefits are not borrowed, its a gift, to raise the living standards of the poor. There is no verbal or written agreement to return the money, whether that is housing benefit or mortgage relief.

A gift that should be taken with gratitude and humility. Not with ranting and envious hatred.

I know quite a few people that benefited to the tune of £20,000+ because they bought the council house that they were living in, and I know others wanting to take advantage of the new relaxed rules, they are very grateful.
