Till Man
The Wicked Lady (The re-make with Faye Dunaway) had scenes filmed up at Owler Bar. They had a lot of Sheffield Folk in it as extras.

GrinderBloke
I recall a film maybe made early 70's... Featured the landing of one of our villages in the sky, probably Park Hill Featured a group of "youths" around The ABC on Angel Street and maybe a scene in a night club. Memory tells me the film was black and white, but it may just have been we only had a BW TV It may have been a TV play / docudrama rather than a full blown film. Your suggestions are welcome. For what its worth... for me The Navigators was the best film to come out of Sheffield. Amongst Giant was interesting, but sadly not available on DVD
Bellacboy
I think the final scenes of Stanley Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket were filmed in Sheffield. (edit-just checked imdb but it doesn't mention Sheffield. I must have been mistaken)
SheffNiner
'Looks and Smiles'(Ken Loach film) is my outstanding memory of a completely realistic Sheffield film. Just as the Steelworks were shutting down, and just as I was leaving school(1981). Me and my mates wre in exactly same boat as lead characters- leaving school with no qualifications expecting a life in steelworks but instead going straight on dole, or in some cases in army as a way out. local non-actors recruited to play most of the lead parts, captured the mood of the depressed times perfectly, when it actually happened- not years later e.g.Full Monty. Filmed round Attercliffe/ Kelvin? flats. Some scenes shot in a nightclub- possibly Josies or Romeo/Juliets?
kev21662
I remember Chapeltown author Barry Hines ("Kes") talking to our class at Ecclesfield in 1978. He was researching for his novel "Looks and Smiles". It wasn't published for another three years. The Disney film "Escape From The Dark" was partly filmed at Thorpe Hesley near Chapeltown in 1975. It was the talk of the area at the time, I remember. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0076320/
Texas
I have dim and distant memories of a movie being shot down Tinsley way sometime in the 50's. They were filming in and around the steelworks and the movie featured Diana Dors. Can't for the life of me remember the title.
