hillsbro Posted January 7, 2016 Share Posted January 7, 2016 (edited) Hi charburton - looking at Google Earth the house is evidently No 1 Havelock Street. Such a pity that it's abandoned. To judge from directory entries the house and adjoining terrace in Broomspring Lane were built in the mid-19th century, before the rest of Havelock Street was built up. The property doesn't seem to feature in the 1851 census return, the first owner being William Atkinson (1797-1874) who in 1861 was a "commercial agent", a widower living there with his three grown-up children. I wonder why nobody seems to want the house now. I remember a house near to where I lived was derelict for years due to a legal problem over ownership, but that was eventually resolved.
