Benefits of privatisation?

Dont know if your news extends as far as Huddersfield, but their A+E is being closed, and probably the Huddersfield hospital too.

The did want to close the smaller Halifax, but because that has a PFI with many years left to run, they are closing Huddersfield.

Huddersfield is one of the largest towns in England, population of 170,000, without a main hospital.

So PFIs are not very flexible, a negative with recent cuts.

Although it's terrible that Huddersfield will lose its A&E, I'm not sure that your assertion that the hospital will close is correct because if you read your link you'd have noticed that there's plans to build a new Huddersfield hospital.

Hospital bosses have confirmed the plan to switch full A&E provision to Calderdale Royal Hospital is part of a bigger scheme that would see the existing Royal Infirmary in Acre Street demolished and a new hospital built across the road on the Acre Mills site that would include operating theatres and wards but not a full A&E unit.
