El Cid
Dont know if your news extends as far as Huddersfield, but their A+E is being closed, and probably the Huddersfield hospital too. The did want to close the smaller Halifax, but because that has a PFI with many years left to run, they are closing Huddersfield. Huddersfield is one of the largest towns in England, population of 170,000, without a main hospital. So PFIs are not very flexible, a negative with recent cuts. http://www.examiner.co.uk/news/west-yorkshire-news/huddersfield-royal-infirmary-more-30000-10747072
Vague_Boy
What is the best model for monopolies, or industries that are too big to regulate? Compare he dismal service and choice of phones offered by the GPO to what BT introduced in the 1980s. If it had been left to the GPO, we'd still be on 56k dial-up. Hospital bosses have confirmed the plan to switch full A&E provision to Calderdale Royal Hospital is part of a bigger scheme that would see the existing Royal Infirmary in Acre Street demolished and a new hospital built across the road on the Acre Mills site that would include operating theatres and wards but not a full A&E unit.
