The Oscars black actor boycotts "are racist to white people"

Why cannot black people involved in the film industry join the Academy from which Oscar-nominators are drawn? Is there a colour bar?

So why are they up in arms? Shouldn't the nominees be proposed on merit, and aren't they at present?

I think most people on here other than the blatant racist trolls are saying that the Oscars are nominated on merit, but that the main issue is that black actors are typecast so only get roles that won't necessarily do well at the Oscars.

Maybe the it could be a case of a black actor only being nominated it's usually for a significant performance but you see loads of white actors nominated for mediocre performances.

 

We'll have equality when we have rubbish black actors being nominated for rubbish performances as we do with white actors.

The problem seems to be that there aren't many rubbish black actors around, they're all good. So if they got more nominations, it would mean less bad white actors getting awards, and that would never do in Hollywood.
