Dubaidani13
Wow yes that's pretty much just how I pictured it to be. I have trawled the Internet in search of the right things to do and where to go. Do you think my plans seem ok then? Is th re anything you would change for a first time traveler. I want to see the elephants and the James Bond beach and the monkeys. ? just remember that Phuket is a little away from other places about 1.5 hrs to bangkok by plane, once on the mainland you can drive to Krabi, you can drive to other places to, but chang mai is a fair way. for a first time traveller i would say book the first couple of nights in a decent hotel to get your bearings, Kata Beach is Nice nr Patong and in Patong try paradise beach hotel on the hillside, then you can get a feel for cheaper places. james bond beach and the the beach from the film"the Beach" are worth seeing take a boat trip. elephants are in the rose garden Bangkok and other places. just remember to haggle in all markets but not food as its very cheap, try the street food and the pancake stalls....can taste it now:D Thailand is the land of smiles give respect and they will do anything for you with a smile, not false either

Cyclone
TukTuks and Taxi's are pretty cheap, although Patong seemed to be congested a lot of the time, so we mostly just walked when we were there. A taxi from that hotel I linked to Old Phuket Town market was about £5 I seem to remember. And similar for a large tuktuk back (fitted 6 of us in it). Massages are very cheap, 250 - 400 bhat, worth getting one nearly every day IMO.
spilldig
Within walking distance of Bangla road I would say, but far enough so you can not hear the noise when you are in your hotel.

Robbie Loving
they all look pretty good and to be fair there are not any bad hotels in my experience unless you are backpacking in Motels, usually in far east their 3 star is =to our 5 star. check trip advisor That's the wrong way around, our 3 star is to ther 5 star. I write this whilst laid in Phi Phi next to the pool. What an island, the scenery is the best I have seen while here. But there is loads to choose from and I think no matter what you choose, you won't go wrong. By all accounts Phuket has a lot of prostituition, so we have avoided there. Kho Lanta was a fantastic island, many things to do, good food and a decent enough sized island. Phi phi is a bit of a party island in the centre, but what a view of everything. It is breathtaking. We stayed in Samui and Koh Pagnhang (where the full moon party is)? We booked hotels in coves and the beaches were better than anywhere else I have seen in the world. We have taken a few planes to get around rather than night buses, the planes are generally cheap, between £10-£60. It saves a lot of time and effort. Travelling around is very very cheap, for a 45 minute ride in bangkok (went to this worlds largest market) cost us £4 in a taxi and £3 in a tuctuc. Boat trips from island to island cost around £4-8 depending on where you want to go. Scooters are available for £3 per day in most places, but you will see a lot of people walking around in bandages because you need no insurances and only a passport to take one away. If you're good on bikes, it is highly recommended, but if not a taxi can be booked out normally for around £30 for the day and he will drive you to where ever you want to go. Be prepared to haggle for everything, they will have no concerns with quadrupling a price just because you are from England. That includes clothes, taxis, gifts etc. Beer is cheap, you will pay between £1/£2 for premium beer and upto £3 for a large premium 660ml bottle, Have a fantastic time, you can not go wrong no matter what you want to do, elephant rides and zoos are plentiful all over the islands. Cyclone
What accounts were those? Perhaps I'm just oblivious, but apart from signs in the massage shops saying "no sex" I didn't see any prostitution or even references to it.
