999tigger
Surely the immediate stopping the loss of life must take preference of anything else. Think we will just have to agree to disagree what the thread was about.
Anna B
Many of the refugees where involved in the initial civil unrest in Syria, Syria wasn't perfect under Assad but it was much better for everyone before the Arab Spring took hold in Syria, they wanted change and change is what they got, its not the change they expected so they are now fleeing. I agree. But was the West actively involved in agitating in the Arab spring, as some suspect?
pretty_big
By the looks of this we may be facing drownings in the English Channel and North Sea this summer too
I1L2T3
By the looks of this we may be facing drownings in the English Channel and North Sea this summer too They would be stupid to try either route. The chances of success are close to zero unless suitable craft were used. The temperature of the water in the North Sea is low even in the summer, night time temperatures can be well under 10C, winds are often high and the sea is frequently rough. After immersion you would die very quickly unless you had proper protective equipment. The channel is one of the world's busiest waterways and one of the most heavily policed in maritime terms too. There will be no influx on those routes.
Nagel
It's our fault. Given that they will come anyway, we should have arranged an EU funded ferry service long ago.

I1L2T3
It won't stop them trying, they'll find more elaborate ways once more arrive. There's a reason they are trying to get through the tunnel, or onto ferries. The reason is if they get in anything other than a sea-worthy craft or onto a train they are highly likely to die. Or will be apprehended very quickly and returned to the nearest coast which isn't going to be within 6 miles of the UK..
