El Cid
Why do you think that they are a waste of money? I dont know the cost of these solar bins, when I first saw it, it made me laugh all the way home. I couldnt figure out why there was a solar panel on the top, all it does is store waste. But it seems it compacts waste too, so they dont need emptying so often. But this solar bin, is 50' in between two other ordinary bins. So the council will empty the other bins, and walk past this one.

I know the council isn't perfect, but I think if they paid a lot of money for these bins they'd also make arrangements to have them emptied. I also think you need to get out more - this is a thread protesting at precisely nothing.

El Cid
A quick google shows that the councils can lease them, £5,000 over 5 years, one newspaper said it works out at £22 per week, but that may include wi-fi.
