Well off council tenants must pay market rent

Recommended Posts

People living on the NLW will NOT be well off!

They will if they can manage their finances a bit.

Some people will never be well off irrespective of earnings.

Some will be well on 20k.

30k seems sensible for a couple.

And if they want kids they can get as many as they can afford, not as many as they like and wait for handouts.

Why should we be sponsoring kids of parents who are too stupid to understand consequences.

Sensible in what way?

It's below the national average, and by definition being on the average wage makes you "average" not "well off".

Average has nothing to do with well-being.

£30k will provide you with good life anywhere outside London.

So you will be well off in terms of well-being.

Do you require definition of well-being?

Human Development Index for example.

What is average up north anyway?

Isn't national £27,5k or am I looking at old data?

Nobody mentioned well being.

The phrase was "well off" which refers to having above average wealth and/or income.

Are you comparing individual average to household? Average in Sheffield is 22k, per person, not per couple.

Why are you getting bogged down with this well off well being nonsense?

The 30k and 40k levels have been chosen by the government as the level at which council tenants should be paying market rents becayse they can afford it. Its a political decision. It was originally envisaged the level would be £60k.

Because there is no taper, then people are going to reduce their hours to stay below the threshold.
