What I'm after is a deepish, cylindricak pot, with a lid & a mesh pan inside, & cook on a gas oven top.. Just something nice & basi, value for money.Does aqnybody know where I can get one locally? apelike
Most stores sell them so try Wilco or TJ Hughes.
999tigger
Both of those suggested by apelike. Can I suggest that a wok is far more efficient. You use less oil and it heats up faster.
runningman1
I thought that the electronic ones used less oil? How does one use a wok as a chip pan? Surely due to its width and shape it is unsuitable?
swede1973
Dont know where to buy one as we eat those horrid frozen ones. But chips done in lard is the best.
apelike
But chips done in lard is the best. Thumbs up to that, and also you need proper malt vinegar not that non-brewed condiment acid rubbish.
Solution
If you are anywhere near firth park, there is a large shop up the hill that sell all this kind of stuff. It's run by an Asian family, who naturally have all the different kinds of cookwear that you can imagine. Really friendly people, and surprisingly good value for an independent. Well worth a visit as they sell all kinds of other stuff for the home too. Hope this helps, Bill.
999tigger
I can tell you they are £9.99 in TJ Hughes , sure someone must do them cheaper. Wilko or some cheap hardware shop
yellowperil
For the extra £2 itll cost you in oil, if it costs you anymore at all ( our element is under the heating pan) do yourself a favour and go for the electric, its temperature controlled and has a safety cut out and might just stop you burning your house down one day. Much safer.
