Eric Arthur
I can't imagine a worse position to take up, always up to public scrutiny, your private information on public record, and the expectation that you must behave more perfectly than anyone else or have your livlihood and reputation destroyed for being just like the people you represent. 999tigger
Many of them dont behave perfectly though. They get to exercise power and get pretty good money and a nice pension plus allowances. Its hardly performance related.
sutty27
I would gladly be a politician but its very unlikely an honest person like myself would ever be elected, the public appear to prefer to elect dishonest people.

Do people have a choice? The candidates for the main parties are all pre-selected by the party to do the bidding of the party, not the electorate's. We have no say in who is chosen whatsoever. Very, very few independent candidates are ever elected. I think the figure is 12 in the last 70 years.
RonJeremy
Not in a million years. I don't behave better or worse than the general population. But if they get caught speeding they get piloried all over the papers. They get spied and pried upon. Every facet of their lives raked over: past and present. Asked impossible questions. Have to represent constituents they strongly disagree with. Awful job and very litlle thanks. The money is Okayish, but no one goes into politics for the pay and allowances/expenses. They do it to make a better country.
