Help needed please

Recommended Posts

Iv had a very expensive leather lounge suite in storage for nearly 12 months.

unfortunately, now we've moved into the property its meant for it smells really #musty#.

Its so bad the whole house smells ,, and im a bit wary that its going to permeate our skin and we will end up smelling as well!!

can anybody recommend a cleaning company or product to get rid of the smell please? its a shame because it was only a few months old when it went into storage and it realy was very expensive but unless i can get rid of the smell its going to have to go.

Kitchen roll in envelopes with bicarb in (make secure parcels of bicarb in a sheet of kitchen roll, inside a sealed envelope) make five or six and stick them under cushions and down crevices.

Zoflora in a spray bottle well diluted and wipe down the entire couch.

If it still pongs Zoflora on kitchen paper under cushions.

Avoid lavender flavour Zoflora though, it smells orrible.

thank you for replies and suggestions.

the suite is full leather, no fabric.

there was slight mould on the back of the settee, i used a mild solution of non bio soap powder to wash down and then rinsed well. all mould has gone, leather looks like new but the smell is very very pungent.

is anybody aware of any specialist products or companies I could use please or even where to start to look ?

Saddle soap is good for cleaning leather sofas, but if the leather has deteriorated due to damp, there is nothing you can do. Is there a waxy residue on the leather?

no residue at all on the leather in fact it looks like it always has,, just the awful musty smell

It might be worth turning it upside down and taking the bottom sheet off so you can get to the springs. Something might have made a home in there. I'd also put some sort of air fresheners in the space. The bicarb in sachets sounds like a good idea. You can fix the bottom sheet back on with upholstery tacks or staple gun.

You could also try leaving it out of doors in the fresh air for a while, (weather permitting of course.)

Get a dog! it's not an ideal solution but it'll eventually smell of dog instead of mould :)

I use a really good leather cleaner and it makes my settees smell lovely - it's at home though so I'll have a look tonight and let you know what it is called. Pretty sure I bought it from Morrison's.

I also second Bicarb - it's works miracles on so many things.
