El Cid
Secondary schools in Liverpool and Manchester are "not firing on all cylinders" due to deteriorating GCSE performances, Sir Michael Wilshaw said. I thought that academies and free schools were the answer? Do they have the same number of academies in the failing areas? Why just these areas, is funding an issue? alchresearch
Its a very odd statement to come out with. To me it sounds like its a story concocted to mention the Northern Powerhouse, or an excuse to push the blame elsewhere for its failure. He also struggles to comprehend the differences between university and school funding, and the issue of teacher retention. If he's really that bothered, then when the Powerhouse is up and running, they can just ship up talent from down South like the BBC did when they moved to Salford. Here's the BBC news link about this story: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-35633304 ---------- Post added 23-02-2016 at 13:39 ---------- Speaking of the Northern Powerhouse and jobs: The Government's 'Northern Powerhouse' department is to shut down its office in Sheffield, moving 247 jobs to London http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/northern-powerhouse-department-close-sheffield-7265022
