A.B.Yaffle
In 2010 the socialists won the General Election. LibDem's manifesto was far closer to Labour's than the Tories. But we still ended up with a right wing government due to Clegg wanting to be made Deputy PM. ---------- Post added 25-02-2016 at 21:28 ---------- John Kettley is a weather man And so is Michael Fish Tribe of Toffs. Michael_W
Who or what do you think 'fancifully brainwashes' students? Please explain why you think people who are unable or unwilling to pursue higher education are likely to be much more intelligent when it comes to politics (as you seem to imply). I implied nothing of the sort, I just responded to Bonzo with some like for like assumption based on the sort of people I come into contact with OK
tinfoilhat
I think you're very wrong. I work with a lot of people at university age, they're a very clued up bunch and largely liberal. Largely liberal but I'm not sure they're as switched on about global issues as they used to be in previous generations.

What makes you think that? Access to information has become far easier.
Squiggs
The fact that Corbyn has been described as "Extreme Left" contradicts the thread title

Students I've come across - very knowledgable in their own subject, but not outside it. There was one on a panel on 5live the other day asking for details in bite sized chunks regarding the EU because him and his student mates couldn't understand it. Danny_Boy
You know you can be a liberal and not a socialist right? I've very liberal but I can't think of anything worse that socialism.
Anna B
I think British people are inherently fair, and that does tend to make them lean towards socialism.
Bonzo77
When I was a lad 'youth' was not University age, anyway many working class 'youth' are more right wing, streetwise and have not been fancifully brainwashed at any university ! You mean the young labourers? The ones that pick up a copy of The Sun every morning with their cuppa and bacon butty? No, they've not been brainwashed in any way what so ever! ---------- Post added 26-02-2016 at 08:06 ---------- Largely liberal but I'm not sure they're as switched on about global issues as they used to be in previous generations. I think they're far more switched on about global issues. It was far easier to ignore or disguise what was happening in global politics 50 years ago. Today we have the Internet and nothing is hidden away. Global issues are part of daily life today. ---------- Post added 26-02-2016 at 08:08 ---------- Students I've come across - very knowledgable in their own subject, but not outside it. I wouldn't pretend to know enough about the EU either. I've got a lot of reading to do before I cast a vote. I find the whole subject confusing. And you think that students in the 70s would have known all about the EC?
