geared
I think you're very wrong. I work with a lot of people at university age, they're a very clued up bunch and largely liberal. Generally they start off pretty left wing and slowly swing to the right as they leave uni and discover what living in the real world is like. Eater Sundae
Anna B gets it about right, but don't forget the public put in a Tory government so perhaps not quite so socialist after all. And now an extreme left wing leader has taken over Labour they have little chance of ever coming back into the centre main stream. A tory government that still spends a great deal of our money on the NHS and state education. That's still pretty socialist.
foxy lady
According to these You Gov results! It really doesn't amount to a hill of beans what you choose to call them if it doesn't alter the way they vote. From your link.. While this trend is not turning into widespread support for Corbyn's Labour party - the Tories had a ten point lead in YouGov polling at the beginning of the month - new YouGov research suggests that the concept of socialism is now more popular than capitalism. Just to be clear. A 10 point lead where one party has 40% support and another 30% means that 33% more people would vote for one than the other. F. Sidebottom
I think British people are inherently fair, and that does tend to make them lean towards socialism. Sorry, but this is just utter tosh. Look back on the last 40 years election results and tell us if the Brits lean towards socialism. Even the Labour party under Blair leant away from traditional socialism. I'm a capitalist - have been since my brain first was able to function as an adult. And in all that time I have advocated 'fairness' in politics and policy far more than many of the 'socialists' I know. I happily pay my taxes and demand support for those that are needy, infrastructure for all, and opportunity for the masses to the benefit of everyone. The only difference being is that I see the importance of this being at the source of employment (i.e. for business) not first at the end product (the public). It has to be in that order. All this monopoly that the 'socialist' claim over fairness and morality is pure emptiness on so many levels, and is only indicative of some 1900's comedy stereotype. Michael_W
You mean the young labourers? The ones that pick up a copy of The Sun every morning with their cuppa and bacon butty? No, they've not been brainwashed in any way what so ever! ---------- Post added 26-02-2016 at 08:06 ---------- I think they're far more switched on about global issues. It was far easier to ignore or disguise what was happening in global politics 50 years ago. Today we have the Internet and nothing is hidden away. Global issues are part of daily life today. ---------- Post added 26-02-2016 at 08:08 ---------- I wouldn't pretend to know enough about the EU either. I've got a lot of reading to do before I cast a vote. I find the whole subject confusing. my bold There's a statement typical of a sneering, hypocritical, middle class socialist ..... you would make a good Labour politician like Emily Thornberry
geared
No they don't. People I know have, takes 5-10 years out of uni for minds to change though so you wouldn't see it with just Uni age kids.
