Waldo
Just bought a used car privately. It's a zero tax band (£0 / year). Do I need to tax it (in my name) before taking out insurance? Thanks.

Thanks. you will need to register the car in your name. you will possibly not be able to insure it until you have done this. ask at a post office that does road tax, they will have the paperwork that you need. Orzel
It used to be that you couldn't buy tax without insurance. Now previous keeper sends V5, you are left with green slip. If you have V5 send it straight away. Tax it on post office as tax is not transferable. No need for insurance now. Insurance doesn't need tax or you to be registered keeper. Each of those things is independent to other.
